Oils, butters and what they do.

Every recipe starts with you choosing. This is the shelf you choose from, and what I know about each jar on it.

Oils

Apricot Kernel Oil: Everyone's friend: light, absorbent, all skin types.; Apricot kernel oil is everyone's friend. It suits every skin type, soaks in quickly, and carries vitamins A and E along with it. If you are not sure which oil to pick, start here.
Avocado Oil: Gentle, and a champion for sensitive skin.; Avocados are champions of sensitive skin. The oil is a natural source of vitamin E and antioxidants, which help protect your skin from everyday downers like sun, wind and pollution. It brings its own moisture to the table and then traps it there, so the care lasts.
Castor Oil: Thick and deeply moisturizing, especially for the face.; Castor oil comes from the seeds of the castor plant, native to the tropics of Africa and Asia. It is thick, rich in ricinoleic acid and other fatty acids, and holds moisture in like few other oils. A little goes a long way, which is why it earns a spot in so many face recipes.
Coconut Oil: Rich, all-day moisture. Best for the body.; Coconut oil has surely earned its good name. It locks in moisture and strengthens your skin's own protective barrier, which is why it is so good on newly shaven legs. It can block pores on the face, so I steer it toward body lotion rather than face cream.
Grapeseed Oil: Fast-absorbing, won't clog pores.; Grapeseed oil has much to offer. It is high in natural vitamin E and omega-6 fatty acids, which support your skin's protective barrier, and it absorbs quickly without clogging pores. A good choice if your skin leans oily.
Olive Oil: Classic, cleansing, won't clog pores.; In skin care, olive oil has withstood the test of time. Join Cleopatra and the ancient Egyptians and add it to your daily routine! It is full of antioxidants and is a cleansing oil that will not clog your pores.
Rice Bran Oil: Smoothing and antioxidant-rich.; Rice bran oil is known for smoothing the look of fine lines. In Japan, women who use rice bran on their skin are called the 'rice bran beauties'. If that has not already wooed you, it also brings vitamins E and B, antioxidants and essential fatty acids.
Sunflower Oil: Absorbs easily, vitamin-rich.; Our sunflower oil is cold expeller pressed, so everything good in the seed stays in the oil. It is easy for the skin to absorb and brings vitamins C, E and K along with essential fatty acids and amino acids. It is an antioxidant too, and helps your skin's barrier do its job.
Sweet Almond Oil: Light and softening, gentle enough for anyone.; The sweet almond tree is a native of the Mediterranean, though it is grown in many places now. Its oil is emollient, which is a fancy word for skin softening, and it is light enough that it is unlikely to clog pores. It absorbs slowly but never leaves you feeling greasy. Perfect for all skin types!

Butters

Grass-Fed Beef Tallow: Silky and light, sourced in Montana.; Tallow's makeup is remarkably close to the oils in our own skin, which is why it absorbs so easily and suits every skin type. It gives a lotion a lighter, silkier feel than you would expect from a butter. Our tallow is grass-fed and proudly sourced right here in Montana!
Kokum Butter: Firm and fast-absorbing. Softens without the weight.; Kokum butter is rich and emollient, yet skin and lips absorb it quickly, so the good stuff gets where it is going. It softens the skin and helps it stay supple, and it is one of the firmer butters, so it gives a lotion a little more body.
Mango Butter: Soft, barely scented, absorbs clean.; Have you ever been annoyed by that big mango pit that takes up so much space? Well, it holds something valuable: mango butter! Loaded with vitamins A and E and antioxidants, it is lightweight and non-greasy, and it does not clog pores, which makes it perfect in a face cream.
Organic Cocoa Butter: The heaviest, and it smells like chocolate.; Cocoa butter sits at the rich end of the scale, next to shea. It is high in fatty acids and forms a durable protective layer on the skin. Our organic cocoa butter also brings a rich chocolate scent along with it, so pair your fragrance accordingly!
Refined Cocoa Butter: Cocoa's richness without the chocolate scent.; The same rich, protective butter as our organic cocoa butter, with the chocolate scent refined away. Pick this one when you want cocoa's weight but would rather your fragrance speak for itself.
Shea Butter: Rich and protective, faintly nutty.; Shea butter is high in fatty acids and vitamins, which is what makes it so good at softening skin. It conditions, tones and soothes, and it is easy for the skin to absorb, so it does not leave you feeling greasy. It is the butter in our lotion bars for good reason.

Botanical extracts

Aloe Vera Extract: Healing, cooling, deep hydration; Aloe Extract brings deep hydration, healing, cooling, and anti-bacterial properties as an added enhancement to any moisturizer.
Calendula Extract: Gently repairs and protects; Calendula Extract is highly regarded for its gentleness and its ability to repair and protect the skin barrier.
Chamomile Extract: Natural skin-brightener, calms skin inflammation; Chamomile Extract contains natural skin-brightening properties, fights premature aging, and calms skin inflammation.
Oat Extract: Relieves irritation and gently cleanses; Oat Extract adds value to any moisturizer as it relieves skin irritation, repairs the skin barrier, gently cleanses, and deeply hydrates.

Cucumber Melon: Summer all year; A crisp, juicy, and uplifting scent that smells like a refreshing burst of high summer.
Eucalyptus Mint: Spa worthy; Bring your spa home with this refreshing blend.
Girls' Day Out: Polished and energetic; Polished, yet energetic- a fragrance for an outing with your besties. Starts with notes of clove, berry, orange, tonka, and ylang ylang. The blend finishes with notes of creamy vanilla, myrrh, and resin.

Ocean Shores: Coastal; This fresh and complex scent is inspired by the Pacific Northwest beaches and will transport you there from wherever you are.
Pumpkin Buttercream: Cozy, sweet; Can you go wrong with sweet, creamy pumpkin? This one wins a place in your line-up all winter!

Violet Vale: Delicate and nostalgic; Violet is a rare scent to find, and in a similar way it is a special ‘find’ in your own patch of nature. Violets only grow wild and thus grow as they please.
